The Archdiocese of Bangalore has been pioneering the cause of Education in its Archdiocese by opening Educational Institutions. It was felt that to properly administer all its educational institutions, a separate body was required and thus came The Archdiocesan Board of Education in the year 1962. The first President of the Board was the then Archbishop Most Rev. Thomas Pothacamury and the Secretary was Rev. Fr. Ignatius Pinto who was also the Secretary of All India Association of Catholic Schools, Karnataka Region and was looking after all the Catholic schools of Karnataka including the Educational Institutions of Archdiocese of Bangalore for 19 years

Many illustrious Secretaries served the Board with passion and sincerity. They were Rev. Fr. Ignatius Pinto, who later became the Bishop of Shimoga and Archbishop of Bangalore and he was succeeded by Rev. Fr. Anthappa. The Secretary thereafter was Rev.Fr. Jerome Rego who worked from 1990 – 2007. During his period the Archdiocesan Board of Education became vibrant and many measures were taken to streamline the functioning.

The growth of ABE was noteworthy after the present Archbishop Most Rev. Bernard Moras who took over as President of ABE in the year 2004. He got Archdiocesan Board of Education, Bangalore registered as a society on 27.09.2006 vide no: BLU- S677- 2006-07. He being a great advocate of Education, encouraged opening of many Schools and Colleges in the Archdiocese. To complement his efforts, the ABE was fortunate to have Rev. Fr. V.M. Gregory as Secretary from the year 2007 to 2013. The combination of the enthusiasm of the Archbishop Most. Rev. Bernard Moras as President and Sincerity of Rev. Fr. V.M. Gregory as Secretary had a telling effect on the functioning of the ABE. Fr. V. M. Gregory drafted the manual of the ABE in 2009 providing the guidelines for both administration and accounting of the Educational Institutions. During this period Income Tax Exemption ORDER UNDER SEC. 10(23C)(Vi) OF THE INCOME TAX ACT. 1961 was obtained for ABE. Many measures like improved wages, Social Security and recruitment of qualified teaching staff was brought for the improvement in the functioning of all the schools under the Archdiocesan Board of Education. The current Secretary Rev. Fr. John Rose took over from Rev. Fr. V.M. Gregory in July 2013 and is striving to continue the legacy. The ABE was allotted a spacious office at Paalanaa Bhavana and is now equipping itself to computerize all the data of Schools coming under it and creating an exclusive website. The ABE is fortunate to have the complete backing of the President Most Rev. Bernard Moras, Vice President Msgr. Jayanathan, a very co-operative Governing Body and all Manager & Correspondents. From 2004 after he took over as President of Archdiocesan Board of Education,
